FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does it take to test a coin?
Not long at all! Just a few seconds.
What happens if I put a coin that isn't a 1oz Eagle, Krugerrand, or Maple on GOLD GAuGE?
GOLD GAuGE is only designed to authenticate 1oz Eagles, Krugerrands, and Maples. While there may be other coins out there with similar dimensions and resonance profiles, we do not recommend using GOLD GAuGE to authenticate them.
But I want to test other coins and bars! And silver! Do you sell a device for those?
Not yet! But we'd love to hear which coins, bars, and precious metals you'd like to have tested. We are considering designing different devices to handle different forms of bullion.
The blue POWER light is flashing - what does this mean?
The battery is running low. Time for a recharge!
Will GOLD GAuGE work while I'm holding it in my hand?
Most likely, yes. But GOLD GAuGE works by detecting vibrations - so ideally, it's resting on a stable surface. If you're actively shaking GOLD GAuGE in your hand while testing, it may interfere with the results.
Will GOLD GAuGE work in the dark?
GOLD GAuGE partially relies on light to discriminate between types of coins. In extreme lighting conditions (such as a pitch black room, or while shining a flashlight directly into the photosensors) it may cause GOLD GAuGE to confuse the different types of coins.
Will GOLD GAuGE work underwater?
We strongly recommend that you don't try this.
GOLD GAuGE's lights won't come on. What's going on?
The battery has died. Time for a recharge!
I got an unexpected result, and I'm sure GOLD GAuGE is wrong. What happened?
The most common cause of a bad read is misplacement of the coin. While the coin doesn't have to be perfectly centered on the sensor, if it's accidentally resting on the outer rim of the platform, it can result in an error. Be sure that the coin is placed properly. Other potential sources of trouble are vibrations, touching a coin during testing, or extreme lighting conditions. If the issue persists, please contact us - we would be very interested to investigate this issue.
GOLD GAuGE has frozen up and won't test coins. What do I do?
In the unlikely event that GOLD GAuGE has locked up, simply restart the device by closing the case and opening it. If the problem persists, please contact us - we will attempt to solve the issue as quickly as possible.
